My cousin Missy recently announced her engagement to her long-time boyfriend Ryan. I am so thrilled for her and can't wait for the wedding (talk about photo op, right??). She's started a blog: click here to check it out!
Unfortunately, the whole fam isn't going. We're doing the divide-and-conquer technique. I will have Olivia and another, hopefully Jake, depending on his behavior. Matt will have whichever two don't take. Olivia can not ait. Every day she asks me, "Is today the wedding?"

This weekend, we bought her dress. She chose it and is in love with it, especially the 'diamonds' at the waist.

Yes, we do live rather near Scranton, mentioned in the movie 'Kingpin' and made famous by NBC's 'The Office'. Not near enough to say that I live there though, thankfully.

My daughters (yes, heaven help me -s, plural) have become addicted to Dora the Explorer. In addition to torturing me with this drivel during regular programming hours, they have one DVD with, I think, 4 episodes on it.

I've seen more episodes of Dora than I care to admit. They're all essentially the same. I could easily go off on how disturbing it is that this 5/6 year old girl and her little monkey friend are allowed to roam the jungle with nothing but a map and backpack, each day only narrowly fending off the kleptomaniac fox in their quest for blue train rights or ice cream, but I won't. Not today, at least.

The reason for my mental uneasiness today is a snippet from one of the episodes from the DVD that plays ad infinitum. In the beginning of each episode, the purpose for today's journey is laid out and then Dora and the kooky little monkey consult Map to get today's route.

Before dispensing his little pearls of itinerarial (you mean it's not a word?) wisdom, Map entertains us with a song. Imagine, if you will, a simple little tune acompanying, 'I'm the map. I'm the map. I'm the map. I'm the map. I'm the MAP!'

On this particular episode, Map is apparently channelling Alyson Hanigan. Today he throws in a variation of his theme song. It now goes something like this: '(What's my name?) I'm the map. (Say my name) I'm the map. I'm the map. (SAY MY NAME!) I'm the MAP!'

*All* I can think of when I hear this is Alyson's character in American Pie, Michelle, screaming at Jim (Jason Biggs), as they're about to finally have sex, "What's my name?? Say my name, bitch!!"

I have to wonder if this is some twisted little inside joke between the writers...

I like coffee. I like yogurt. I saw coffee-flavored yogurt at Wegman's the other day. I thought it might be good. I thought wrong.

My first impression upon opening the container ("Ew. Creamy mop water.") should have kept me from tasting it. I emphasize 'should' for a reason. I am a glutton for punishment.

I tasted it. I suppose you could call it 'coffee-flavored'. If, by 'coffee', you mean week-old, bitter, bottom-of-the-pot coffee. Rather like calling it 'chocolate-flavored', and adding only unsweetened cocoa powder. Blecch.

Did I throw it out? Well...no. I mean, I didn't want to waste it!

I fed it to Cassie. She wolfed it down. Am I a completely horrible person for pawning it off on my unsuspecting daughter? At worst, I ruined her capability to have discerning tastebuds as an adult by feeding her bitter, sub-par yogurt. I doubt it, though. I am referring to the same kid who plucks God-knows-how-old Cheerios from the depths of the couch cushions and happily munches away on them.

My older daughter, Olivia, is 3. She's a hard-core girly-girl. Her bedroom is painted alarming shade of purple. She has Princess decorations, toys, and dress-up dresses out the wazoo. She has recently become enfatuated with Barbie. She loves dresses, skirts, cute shoes and shopping.

She loves to watch me and imitate me when I'm doing my hair and make-up. She can usually convince me to 'put (makes noise...) pppthh in her hair' (hairspray) and 'do her makeups' (brush un-loaded blush brush across her cheeks and proclaim her 'Gorgeous!') and 'make her smell like fruits' (mild Bath and Body Works body spray scents). Truth be told, I'm all too happy to oblige. I love having a girly-girl.

For quite some time, I have kept the 'fruit sprays' in cute little baskets on the back of my toilet. I'm going to have to find a new home for them.

Today, she comes out to the kitchen, following a trip to the potty, rubbing the side of her face, liquid dripping down her neck. I could smell her from across the room. She caught my eye, beamed her trademark grin and announced, 'Mommy! I put my own fruit spray on!'

Only mildly horror-stricken, I play along. 'Which one did you use, honey bear?'

'All of them!' (FYI - there are 4 unrelated scents within her grasp.)

'Smell me, Mommy! Don't I smell good?'

I said the only thing I could muster without bursting out laughing.

'You sure are smelly, sweetie. Do you think you'd like to take a tubby?'
